Far before daybreak we heard the call to arms. Our fierce team leader, Colin, had banged on each of our doors and sent us groggily to the courtyard for a series of rigorous training exercises. I struggled with the seemingly endless sit-ups and Johnny barely could complete his 200th jumping-jack. JT did remarkably well with his one-handed pushups. Colin, however, remained unimpressed. The competition tonight was going to be no joke.
The Bangkok dart crew (Colin, Adam, A, Johnny, John, Foon, CW, Chai, Gap, and Matt) attempted to appease the brutal coach with some line drills (which John was rather good at) and MMA fighting-style pair-offs (A took Adam down in one punch). Coach Colin, however, decided to choose a new tactic to whip his Bangkok team into shape: a one-throw pub crawl up and down Sukhumvit Soi 22. “To build endurance and stamina”, said the coach, we were to hit every bar on the Soi, throw one dart, chug one beer, and leave. Only then could we “prove ourselves” against the opponents toninght, the incredibly skilled team from Lomchoy (Pop, Mario, Jo, Takka, and Ped).
Oh, and he promised hot cocoa after we were victorious.
Flash forward to 8pm:
Two very capable teams in a neck and neck fight… Pop led his team with backrubs and offerings of beer. Colin, stern in his cowboy hat, used a more strict approach. These were all very close and entertaining games. After game six, the New Cowboy team and the Lomchoy team were tied with 7 points apiece. Would the New Cowboy team walk away with the win?
Nope.
Pop and his crew threw a great team game, beating New Cowboy at Mickey Mouse and leaving the final score at 8 to 7. Furious, Colin threw his cowboy hat on the floor, shot it with his six-shooter a few times, and left in a huff. Looks like there will be no hot cocoa for us this time. But we are all excited for the rematch! Mugs away!
